Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) offers mail
delivery, logistics and banking services.
DPWN, is the world’s leading logistics
group. DPWN has developed from a German
parcel and letter mail service provider
into the global market leader with around
500,000 em-ployees and a presence in 220
countries and territories.
The Challenge:
DPWN is growing fast, acquiring companies
in the United States, Europe and Asia in
an aggressive push to build a world-class
delivery company. But before it could deliver
on its profit and sales goals, DPWN must
acquire an important strategic asset valued
by any enterprise: deep under-standing of
its customers. In addition, with 450 delivery
bases, 2 million parcels a day and 80,000
business customers in Germany alone, DPWN
also realized it would have a major-league
logistics problem of its own if it didn’t
find a way to quickly and efficiently track
the flood of data flowing through its vast
opera-tions.
The Solution:
Together with Oracle Consulting, we helped
them to implement DWH-solution based on
the central Track&Trace-Shipment-Tracing-System,
DPWN has been able to enable itself to
move beyond the limitations of disparate
databases into a true data warehouse environment.
With this data warehouse in place, DPWN
is improving its tracking of parcels,
sharpening its delivery times, increasing
customer retention and beefing up products
and services to meet customers needs.
This DWH was a big mile-stone for DPWN
to move from a product-centric to a customer
centric company.
This system included the development of
new solutions for the parcel-shipment
and interfaces to other systems (f.e.
to systems of clients, partners of DPWN).
This systems was the biggest Oracle OPS-Installation
in Europe.
